Esther Ortiz was born in the town of Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico on April 15, 1944. She was the seventh child born to Juan Ojeda Lemus and Maria Rodriguez de Ojeda.
Esther’s profession was a secretary at a law firm. Her hobbies included reading, listening to music , and writing letters to her loved ones. Her favorite magazine was Vanidades. On May 22, 1975, she married Jose Oscar Ortiz. Esther was an active member of her church and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Her youngest daughter, Laura says if you ask me one defining moment in my life I have to share about my mom I can’t because there were many. I remember my mom as being kind, loving, caring, giving, and she always put everyone else’s needs before hers. As children when we came home from school we were always greeted with sweet hugs and kisses and a warm meal. We didn’t have everything we wanted but we had everything we needed. My mom was my best friend, my fashionista, my Starbucks coffee partner, my world. She always listened to me and gave me advice. Her departure from this world has left a void in my heart that can never be filled. My hope is to be reunited with her and be in her loving arms again.
Elizabeth, her eldest daughter had many fond memories. What she loved most about her mother was the way she carries on with her grandchildren. A kind word, a soft touch to their face, a tight hug, a loving look or simply being with them. My mother’s joy was her grandchildren. “I will miss her dearly, but I feel comforted to know she is no longer suffering”.
Aunt Victoria says that her happiness was to see when Esther would visit her hometown after being married. Our times together were priceless. They were filled with laughter and joyful times. I especially recall a time when we tried on various different outfits while getting ready for a party. She would prance, and dance, and jump around making us laugh out loud. She was always happy and smiling. I am devastated with her loss, but know that she is rejoicing with our lord up above.
