Susan Phillips

Susan Mercedes Phillips, age 65 went to be with her Lord on May 26, 2014 at her North Shore home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born June 12, 1948 in Houston, Texas to Thomas and LaVerne Meehan. A long-time resident of North Shore, Susan was an active member of the Scarlets, graduating NSSH in 1967. Always involved in her churches, Susan was a dedicated volunteer with many ministries, especially those involving children and youth.

Susan was preceded in death by her son James Carpenter, her father Thomas Meehan, her brother Jimmy Meehan, and sister LaVerne Price. Susan is survived by her beloved husband Herman Phillips of Houston, TX; her mother LaVerne Greer of Pasadena, TX; her daughter Lisa Jeffcoat and husband Tracy of Humble, TX; son Doug Carpenter and girlfriend Cathy Hurt of Houston, TX; sister Gayle Jones and husband Kyle of Hendersonville, TN; grandson Christopher Carpenter of Splendora, TX; granddaughter Kayley Jefffcoat of Humble, TX; grandson Tyler Jeffcoat of Humble, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. Susan is also survived by a wealth of friends, including her church families. She loved meeting people; never met a stranger; and chose every opportunity to speak intimately to people about her love of life and especially her love of the Lord. Always steadfast in her faith, Susan chose to turn every one of her life tests into amazing testimonies which she loved sharing. She loved her husband Herman dearly and her world revolved around him and her grandchildren. Visitation will begin Thursday,May 29,2014 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Blackwell & Vazquez Woodforest Funeral Home Main Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday May 30, 2014 at 10:00am at New Life Assembly located across the street from the funeral home at 749 Uvalde Rd. Houston, Texas 77015. Interment will follow in Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, TX 77521

    Lisa, Doug and Herman my heart breaks for you all. May God help ease this transition and help us all make sense in her going home now..

  3. Susan you have been my friend since you were 15, then you became my sister in law. After your divorce you remained my sister in law and you always will be. You and I have a bond that will never be broken. I love your children and I can assure you that their father , my children and I will always be there for them. My heart goes out to them and Herman. May your pain now be gone and you rest in peace. I love you.

  4. Although we only saw her a couple of times, she was a lovely lady. I loved hearing her stories about how she and Herman met, dated and married. She
    was such a blessing. My condolences to Herman and her children and grandchildren.

  5. Susan and I have been friends for 23 years. If you have a friend like Susan God has truly blessed you. And I have been blessed to have Susan as my friend, she has just gone home and I will go home too someday and see her again. I love and miss you Susan.
