Obituary

Abel Trevino, Jr., passed away on May 5, 2023 at the age of 68, in his home in Houston, TX. His battle with metastatic renal cell carcinoma in recent years showed his courage in facing lifes challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Abel came out a true hero and fought staying spiritually and mentally strong until the very end.

Abel is proceeded in death by his beloved mother Olivia Trevino Garcia. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nilsa, his son Carlos “Kiko”, daughter Vanessa “Muñeca” and her husband Sergio De La Cruz, his six soon to be seven grandchildren, Peggy, Zenobia “Zobie”, Zully, Abel Zavier, Benjamin “Benji” and Cristian,  his siblings and their spouses; Dr. Jose Gilberto and Silvia M., Maria “Quela” and Pedro Montemayor, Hector and Maria T., Eduardo and Carmen and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

As a child, when Abel was not in Chicago, he was in his beloved Linares N.L. sharing life-long memories with his baseball friends ultimately playing for Latin America in the Williamsport Little Leagues Baseball in 1967.

Abel met his wife, Nilsa, on Valentine’s Day of 1973 and the two fell madly in love. Throughout their years of marriage, she supported him in his many business adventures every step of the way with El Taco Abel restaurant, Fruteria y Tortilleria, transportation business originally known as Los Primos and then became Ameri-Mex which is in the heart of el barrio of Magnolia. Weekends we spent  at Cole’s Flea Market selling aguas frescas and elotes, and eventually they settled down to owning warehouses and being landlords. They celebrated their marriage by renewing their vows in front of God at St. Charles of Borremeo Catholic Church on Valentine’s Day 2014.

He was known for his generosity, passion for life and love for God as well as his love for his Ranch-life. You could always hear him whistling a happy tune and loved singing corridos over karaoke.
Abel was loved by many and he will be never be forgotten.
