Arthur Zapata entered the Kingdom of Heaven on March 23, 2026, at the age of 74. He was born on June 7, 1951, in Cuero, TX, to parents Camilo & Beatrice Zapata. In addition to his parents and loving wife Leticia, Arthur is preceded in death by his sister Mabel and brothers Jerry and Chris. Arthur is survived by his children Arthur Jr (Eva), Angela (Chris), and Valerie (Ruben), who affectionately call him “Popz” and “Pappy.” Arthur (Grandpa/Gpa) also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Arthur worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years and retired in June 2011.
He truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved mowing not only his own yard on his zero-turn tractor, but also the yards of his neighbors, which earned him the nickname “Beto.” Arthur’s hobbies included: watching ‘wrastlin’ with his son Artie, going to the casino, collecting coins, fishing with his daughter Lulu, turning on Family Feud at dinnertime and shouting out answers with his daughter Angie, and keeping up with the ‘Stros during baseball season. He would laugh at reels on Facebook and order items from their ads. Arthur loved going out for breakfast and enjoying a good cup of coffee. One of his most prized possessions was his 1950 Ford Coupe, and was a member of Northside Classics Car Club. Arthur brought joy to everyone he knew and always helped others in need, especially children. He will truly be missed.
