Carol Jean Esqueda was born on September 16, 1949, in Houston, Texas, to Josephine Avendano and John Paul Mendizabal Sr. She was raised in the Northside of Houston in a humble and loving home alongside her four siblings: Arthur, Mary Lou, Juliet, and John Paul Jr.
Carol Jean graduated from Jefferson Davis High School and began her professional career with Gordon Jewelers. Following the birth of her first child, Matthew, she devoted herself fully to her role as a loving mother and wife, creating a warm and nurturing home for her family. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she ensured her children remained close to the Catholic Church, regularly attending Mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
On February 14, 1988, Carol Jean married Rosalio “Leo” Esqueda Jr. Together, they shared 33 years of marriage rooted in love, faith, and family. Carol Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who found immense joy in spending time with her loved ones.
She enjoyed traveling, watching comedies—especially Adam Sandler films—cheering on the Houston Texans and Astros, and caring for her beloved dog, Miley.
Carol Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and John Paul Sr.; her siblings, Arthur, Mary Lou, Juliet, and John Paul Jr.; and her husband, Rosalio Jr.
She is survived by her children: Matthew and his wife, Yvonne, and Marisa and her husband, Michael. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Sebastian, Josiah, and Azalea.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Vazquez Funeral Home Chapel located at 1805 Huge Oaks St. Houston, Texas 77055.
