Don'Ja Helms Johnson

Don’Ja Helms Johnson, 54, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born with a free spirit and a radiant soul, Don’Ja captured the attention of every room she entered and left lasting impressions on everyone she met.

Don’Ja is survived by her devoted husband and soulmate, Roger Dale Johnson, who was her unwavering strength and constant companion throughout her life and her courageous battle with cancer. Her mother, Kay Lynn Helms, and stepfather, Donald Earl Franklin, also survive her.

She was a proud and loving mother to Andrea and Roy Navarro, Shawntal Millirons, Destiny Spear and Dali Martinez, and Justin Spear. She was also a cherished stepmother to Joshua Johnson and Teresa and Jonathan Garza. Her brother Gary Helms and his wife Tamara Millsaps, and her sister Belinda Helms. Her legacy of love extends to her many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, all of whom were blessed by her boundless warmth and infectious joy.

Don’Ja was diagnosed with cancer on February 14, 2024. Despite the challenges, she fought with fierce determination and grace, her husband always by her side as her steadfast partner. Together, they faced every moment with love and resilience.

She adored singing karaoke and dancing, Don’Ja brought life to every gathering, sharing her talents and joy with those lucky enough to witness it. Her free-spirited nature and love for music and life will be deeply missed, but her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Don’Ja will forever be remembered as a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend. Though we grieve her passing, her memory will live on in our hearts as a source of comfort and inspiration. Rest peacefully, our beautiful Don’Ja Helms Johnson—you will never be forgotten.
