Elisa Sue Mata

Elisa Sue “Alice” Mata age 84 passed away in the early morning of Wednesday July 23, 2025. Alice was born on October 20, 1940 in Houston, Texas to parents Jesse and Petra Gutierrez +. Alice gained her wings after courageously battling her health issues. Alice was a passionate baker, custom cake designer, and sugar artist, whose beautiful cakes were expressions of love that featured in countless occasions. Alice is preceded in death by her parents Petra and Jesse Gutierrez, her loving Husband Jimmy Mata, granddaughter Christina Zermeno, her sister Oralia “Lala” Moreno and brothers Louis and Marcus Gutierrez. Alice is survived by her children Nieves Zermeno, Esmeralda Villarreal (Bernard), Stephen Mata (Sandra) and Isdore “Charlie” Mata ( Angie), grandchildren Amanda Zermeno, Marissa and Alyssa Villarreal, Stephen, Elisa, and Joshua Mata, great-grandchildren Adam, Abel, Chloe, Aliza, Stephen JR, Adrian, Emery and Vincent, siblings Sylvia De Leon (Joe+), Lily Latigo, Richard Gutierrez (Mary+) and Veronica Barajas (Nick) as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom affectionately called her Aunt Alice. She will be greatly missed by all.

A visitation is scheduled on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 2pm to 9pm; reading of the rosary will begin at 7pm, Chapel of Blackwell & Vazquez Funeral Home located at 750 Uvalde RD. in Houston. A funeral mass will be the following day Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 11am at St. Patrick Catholic Church. We will then follow the procession to Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery for a 1pm graveside service.
