Juanita Barrera, better known as Jane, was born on July 21st, 1933, in Rotan, Texas, to Alfred and Carlota Medrano. The 8th out of 14 children. She soon met and married the love of her life, Esequiel Barrera, at the age of 17. Together, they raised their 4 children and created a home here in Houston. She remained a stay-at-home wife and mother all the days of her life. Although widowed for the last 25 years of her life, she became the pillar of the family, always there for every single one of us.
She is preceded in death by her parents and numerous siblings, as well as her husband, Esequiel Barrera, and her daughter, Cynthia Reyna. She is survived by her daughters, Delia (and Antonio Martinez), Rita (and Roy Garza) and her son, Christopher Barrera. Her 11 grandchildren, Monica, Katrina, Tonya, Jackie, Andrew, John, Kristin, Lori, Samantha, Victoria and Matthew, her 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her 4 siblings, Maria, Margie, Barbara and Carolyn.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 3pm to 9pm at the Vazquez Funeral Home chapel located at 750 Uvalde Rd in Houston Texas. Reading of the rosary by Deacon Rey Torres will begin at 7pm. The chapel doors will re-open the following day, Friday, September 26, 2025, at 10am. Father Henry Walker will officiate funeral services at noon. We will then follow in funeral procession to Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery for the rite of committal to begin at 2pm.
