Paula (Salazar) Moreno

Our beloved mother, Paula Salazar Moreno, 98, passed away on November 14, 2022, peacefully in her home in Houston, Texas. 

Paula also referred to as “Telen” by her loved ones, was born on June 7, 1924 in McKinney, Texas. She met Manuel Moreno Flores in her hometown, Los Cristales (Mexico), and they married on August 28, 1943. Manuel was the love of her life who she spent 50 years with. They had 8 children, 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

Paula is survived by her daughter, Cristina Moreno Castillo and husband Roberto Castillo, daughter, Maria C. Avalos and husband Rogelio Avalos, son, Jose Moreno Salazar and wife Maria San Juana Garcia Moreno, daughter, Ma De La Luz Moreno Zertuche, son, Jesus Santos Moreno Salazar and wife Alma Rosa Lopez Moreno, son, Francisco Moreno Salazar and wife Ida Madrigal Moreno, son, Victor Manuel Moreno Salazar and Blanca Estella Ramirez, and  daughter-in-law, Guadalupe Coronado Moreno.

Paula is preceded in death by her parents, Higinio Salazar and Donaciana Gonzalez; husband, Manuel Moreno Flores; son, Pedro Moreno Salazar; son-in-law Luis Manuel Zertuche Hernandez, and grandson, Luis Manuel Zertuche Moreno.

Paula exemplified strength and always persevered to ensure her family was taken care of. She was a woman of great faith who always prayed for her family, friends and the world. Her favorite pastimes were family gatherings and celebrations with Mariachi, attending church, fashion & jewelry, chatting on the phone, and drinking a cup of coffee with her loved ones “La Merienda”. She is greatly missed by her family but we know we were beyond blessed to be gifted one of God’s greatest human beings. 

The funeral service is scheduled from 3:00-9:00 pm CST on November 17, 2022 at Vazquez Funeral home at 750 Uvalde Rd. Houston, TX 77015.  Followed by an additional service and burial in Santiago, Nuevo Leon tentatively scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
