Celebrating the Loving Life of Rita Stella Garza
December 10, 1956 - September 24, 2025
Rita Stella Garza, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on December 10, 1956, in Rotan, Texas to Esequiel and Jane Barrera, Rita was the second of four children. Her family moved to Houston when she was young, where she would build a beautiful life.
On June 1, 1974, Rita married her beloved husband Roy Garza. Their marriage spanned 51 years, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Together, they lovingly raised two daughters and were blessed with many grandchildren.
Rita was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. She served with distinction at the Harris County District Clerk's Office, where she retired in 2008. Her warm and welcoming personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met, earning her the affectionate title of "Mama Rita" from many friends and co-workers who deeply loved and missed her after her retirement.
A woman of unwavering faith, Rita was a constant source of prayer and spiritual strength for her family, offering comfort in times of need and joining in moments of praise.
Rita is reunited in paradise with her parents, Esequiel and Jane Barrera, and her sister, Cynthia Reyna. She is survived by her devoted husband, Roy Garza, and her loving daughters, Monica (John Mata) and Tonya (Chris Garza). She leaves behind nine grandchildren: Christopher, Joshua, Eric, Patrick, Katelyn, Brandon, Devin, and bonus grandchildren Karl and Joshua. She is also survived by her siblings, Delia (Tony Martinez) and Christopher Barrera, along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.
Visitation hours will begin on Thursday, October 2, 2025 beginning at 3pm until 9pm at the Vazquez Funeral Home Chapel located at 750 Uvalde Rd. in Houston. A celebration of Life service officiated by Pastor Quinn will begin at 7pm.
