Sylvia Salinas Gonzalez

   Sylvia was born on July 10th, 1960 in Robstown, TX to Victoria and Jose Simon Salinas. She was the third of four children. The family moved to Houston in 1962. She attended both Furr High School and Spring Branch High School, graduating in 1978. As a young adult she met and married Luis Gonzalez and although their marriage didn't last they had 4 beautiful boys. Luis, Gabriel, Marcos, and Vincente. After being a wife, mother, and a homemaker for several years Sylvia joined the workforce.

   In the late 80s in the print industry doing classified ads. She started at The Houston Post and then went on to The Houston Chronicle where she ended up retiring early. Most of her years she spent living in the El Dorado neighborhood, where everyone was always welcomed into her home and almost always offered a meal. From her son's and their friends that became like "adopted' sons to her own friends of the neighborhood you could always count on Sylvia to lend an ear or a hand. She was always there for anyone and would do her best to help out whenever or however she could. In her later years Sylvia enjoyed tending to her gardening, shopping thrift store deals, and always ready to grab a meal when we would call to take her out!

   She is preceded in death by her son Luis Gonzalez, her brother Steven Salinas, her father Jose Simon Salinas, and nephew Alexander Gwosdz. She is survived by her mother Victoria Salinas, sister Sara & Chris Gwosdz, brother Simon Salinas & Renee, sons Gabriel & Jacqueline, Marcos & Belinda and Vincente. As well as 4 grandchildren Ruben, Baeya, Mason, and
Ashley.

A visitation for Sylvia Salinas Gonzalez will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 3pm to 9pm at the Vazquez Funeral Home Chapel located at 750 Uvalde Rd.
