Ysabel “Ben” Olivarez, also affectionately known as Honey, Dad, Grand-daddy, and Honey-Ben, passed away on May 26, 2023. A man with so many names, because he meant so much to so many people. Ben passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends, who loved him dearly.He was born May 6, 1948, to Manuel Olivarez Sr and Trinidad Sanchez in Lorenzo, Texas. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1974. He graduated from West Texas State University in 1977. He moved from West Texas to Dallas and settled in Houston in 1985.For over 30 years Ben helped small businesses as a private accountant. His many clients were also his good friends.On April 26, 1997, Ben and Sonia were married, and his family grew from his two children, Benjamin and Stephanie, to include TJ, David, Michael, and Ashley.In their spare time, Ben and Sonia loved to travel, both together and with family. Ben enjoyed classic cars, especially his 1970 El Camino, classic country music and the Astros. Ben enjoyed starting every morning reading the newspaper with his morning coffee.By far, his favorite times were those spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grand children.Ben was a great friend and mentor to many. He was a wonderful listener and was always ready and willing to give great advice. Ben is survived by his wife Sonia Olivarez. His son Benjamin Olivarez and wife Gina. Grandchildren Karli Olivarez and Lauren Robinson (Reed Robinson spouse). His daughter Stephanie Johnson and husband Patrick. Grandchildren Braden Johnson and Brett Johnson. His stepson TJ Limas. Granddaughter Ashley, great-granddaughter Gianna. Grandson Mark, and great-grandson Mark Jr. Granddaughter Serena, great-grandson Israel. Granddaughter Brecellia, great-granddaughter Leilani. His stepson David Limas and wife Nathalia. Grandchildren David Jr, Isaiah, and Olivia.His stepson Michael Limas. Grandson Adonis.His brothers Mario Olivarez (spouse Belinda) and Carlos Olivarez (spouse Isabel).His sisters Elidora Cardenas (spouse Frank), Esparanza Ortega, and Seferina Duran (Spouse Tony) Ben is preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Trinidad Olivarez; brothers Miguel, Salomon, Mike, Manuel Jr, Blas and Andy; and his sister Juanita Stockton.
Ben will be missed dearly, as he was loved endlessly.
A visitation is scheduled for June 1, 2023, from 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Blackwell & Vazquez Woodforest Funeral Home located at 750 Uvalde Rd. in Houston, Texas. The following day, Friday, June 2nd, 2023, there will be a funeral mass at 11am at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Deer Park Texas. A final viewing will be held at the church an hour before. We will then follow in funeral procession to Grandview Cemetery.
